Excursió a Wulai – Aigües termalsTrip to Wulai – Hot Springs

Fa un parell de setmanes vam fer la primera escapada de «Taipei City». Voliem fer un primer tast dels «hot springs» (aigües termals) i ens vam acostar fins a Wulai ja que era de fàcil accés amb transport públic.

El departament de turisme edita uns fulletons per les diverses destinacions turístiques aprop de Taipei. Aquí teniu el fulletó de Wulai en anglès, força útil per organitzar l’excursió.

Wulai, apart dels hot springs, és conegut per ser el lloc original de la tribu Atayai, per les excursions a peu i pels restaurants de la zona. És un lloc força turístic, cosa que vol dir autobusos lletjos i carrers comercials.

Abans de posar-nos a l’aigua vam fer un snack, una saltitxa… que vam descobrir que era dolça!

Per fer baixar la saltxitxa, res millor que una caminadeta per tota la zona (haurem de tornar per fer-hi excursions).

La majoria dels turistes opten per anar als «hot springs» dins dels hotels (hi ha una banyera a cada habitació), però nosaltres vam decidir seguir a uns iaios fins a una zona de banys gratuits al costat del riu Nanshi.

L’aigua dels banys (a 80ºC) a Wulai és incolora, sense olor (en altres zones fa una mica de pudor) i amb efectes  rejuvenidors per a la pell.

Primer cal rentar-se i aclimatar-se

Una noia parlava anglès i ens va explicar els passos a seguir. El millor era entrar al riu (ben fresquet) i després posar-se al hot spring a 80ºC

No cal dir que nosaltres també vam ser una mica l’atracció d’aquell dia per aquesta gent que acostuma a anar-hi tot sovint.Two weekends ago we organized our first excursion out of «Taipei City». We wanted to experience the «hot springs» and we decided to go to Wulai as it is east to reach using public transport.

The Tourism Bureau of Taiwan prepares some compact guides for various destinations around Taipei. Find here the Wulai one that was really helpful to organize the trip and the day.

Wulai, apart from hot springs, is also know for being the home to the Atayai tribe, and the tribe’s traditional handicrafts and cuisines make coming to Wulai doubly worthwhile. That means it is a touristic place with ugly buses and commercial streets.

Before getting into the water we decided to try a Taiwanese classic snack, a hot dog in a stick. We didn’t know, but it is a sweet sausage!

In order to digest the hot dog we just wandered around the town a little bit (we will need to come back properly equipped to go hiking) .

Most of the tourists will use the «hot springs» hotels (there is a bath in each room), but we decided to follow two elderly locals and ended up in a area of free hot springs next to Nanshi river.

Wherever you go, just follow the locals :)

Hot springs for free!

The water (around 80ºC) in Wulai is colorless and odorless (in other hot springs it can be stinky), and is known to have rejuvenating effects on the skin.

A nice lady who spoke English explained us the steps to follow. First go into the river (quite cold) and then enter the hot spring at 80ºC and enjoy

This pool was not at 80ºC, otherwise Anna would not be smiling like that.

It is not even necessary to say that we became just a «tourist attraction» for the locals that go bathing there regularly.
