… i segones impressions!… and second impressions!

Com que totes les coses tenen el seu costat bo, li he donat una segona oportunitat a la nostra nova ciutat.

Com per art de màgia, el meu segon cap de setmana a Taipei (el primer el vam dedicar a compres d’emergència) va fer un sol impressionant (digne de primavera!) i vam anar a passejar per la ciutat.

Realment la llum li dona una altre color a la ciutat i permet anar mirant de costat a costat i cap al cel, tot observant  cartells i finestres que s’enfilen edificis amunt, sense haver de mullar-te la cara amb la pluja ;(

Tot i veure-hi més clar, els edificis continuen sent igual de lletjos. Però de tant en tant et vas trobant algun temple amagat que trenca la monotonia amb els seus colors i les seves formes punxegudes i ondulades. Aquí els temples són com pels europeus les esglésies catòliques: vista una, vistes totes. De moment a nosaltres encara ens fa certa gràcia veure un temple d’aquests i contemplar tota la parafernàlia que tenen.

En general la ciutat és bastant caòtica! Hi ha cotxes i motos per tot arreu i condueixen com volen, cadascú a la seva. S’ha de vigilar que no t’atropellin als passos de vianants!! Però també hi ha carrerons més petits, comercials o residencials, que són tranquils. En alguns barris, aquests carrers estan plens de comerços i botigues, tot junt! Així que pots estar mirant samarretes mentre t’arriba la flaire de fritanga o de sopa.

És molt comú menjar pel carrer, o en restaurants, així que de llocs per triar en tenim. Hi ha alguns bars bastant occidentalitzats i a vegades s’agraeix menjar-hi alguna cosa.  Ara, això sí, una cervesa o un café amb llet et pot costar el mateix que un o dos sopars en un altre lloc!!

En general, les olors i el menjar és el què més costa d’acostumar-se. Com que hi ha moltes paradetes de menjar pel carrer, i cuinen molt amb soja i altres espècies, és inevitable que t’arribin les olors o quedar impregnat de certes… aromes. Una especialitat del país és el «tofu pudent«, i sí, no sé com s’ho fan però fa pudor! Hi ha olors difícils de descriure, però seria una barreja entre agre, rànci i, a vegades, un toc dolç.

Doncs bé, aquí estem! Fent una mica el guiri i descobrint coses noves cada dia!!

Ah! i els palillos… superat!! I vosaltres, ja heu practicat?! ;)

As everything has its right side, I gave a second oportunity to our new city.

As if by magic, my second weekend in Taipei (the first one we made some emergency shopping) it was very sunny (like if it was Spring!) and we went to have a walk around the city.

The light gives another colour to the city and it allows you to look everywhere, from side to side, and to the sky, looking to all signs and panels up to the buidings, and all that without get wet beause of the rain ;(

Even if the day is more clear, the buildings continue to be ugly. But from time to time you can find some hidden temple that breaks the monotony whit its colours and its pointed and ondulate shape. Here the temples are as for European people the Catholics Churches: once you have seen one, you have seen all. For the moment, we still enjoy if we found anyone and look at all ornaments they have.

In general, the city is very chaotic!  There are cars everywhere and people drive on their own way. You have to play attention to not be knoked down by any car ot motorbike on the crosswalk!! But there are also some smalls streets, comercial or residential, that are more quiet. In some neighborhoods, these small streets are full of shops and restaurants, all together! So, you can have a look to some clothes while you are smelling the food.

It’s very common to eat outside all along the streets, or in restaurants, so you have many places to chose. There are some  «occidental bars» and sometimes we appreciate to eat there. But, I have to say, a beer or cafe can be as much expensive as a one or two dinners in some other places!!

In general, the most hard to get used to it are the smells and and the food. As there are lots of food stalls all over the streets, and they often cook with soya sauce, you can not scape from all the smells and get impregnate wih some … aromas. A speciality of the country is the «stinky tofu«, and yes, I don’t know how they do it but it really stinks! There  are some smells difficult to describe, but it would be like a mix of something sour, rancid, and sometimes with a sweet touch.

Well, so here we are! A little bit of tourism an discovering new things everyday!!
