Cap d’any! @ Taipei 101New Year’s Eve! @ Taipei 101

Amb alguns dies de retard… però petit post sobre el cap d’any a Taipei.

Després de sopar una mena de sopa amb fideus al primer lloc que vam trobar, vam enfilar cap a la zona del Taipei 101 (l’edifici més alt del món fins que inaugurin el Burj Dubai). Des de fa 6 anys és el punt de congregació de la majoria d’habitants de Taipei per donar la benvinguda al nou any. Hi ha una gentada de por i tots els «locals» (els companys de feina de l’Albert sobretot) recomanaven de no anar-hi pel caos que s’organitza… però essent nous a la ciutat era un cosa que no ens podiem perdre. Ve a ser una mena de Piromusical però multiplicat per cinc o més vegades! :)

S’organitza un concert amb els grups més de moda a Taiwan i aquest any diuen que van anar-hi més d’un milió de persones. Podeu llegir-ne un resum aquí.

A les 12:00 fan l’espectacle de focs al Taipei 101.  Aquest any ha durat 188 segons (3 minuts i 8 segons) en els que han llençat 22.000 petardos amb un cost total d’una mica menys d’un milió de US $.

Vam fer un video propi, però al YouTube n’hi ha de millors. Després ens vam menjar els 12 grans de raïm com mana la tradició del nostre país.

El lema de Taiwan pel 2010 és «Taiwan UP!»

A la sortida de la festa, el caos de gent i vehicles era força impressionant. El metro va funcionar tota la nit i va transportar prop de 2 milions de persones. Els carrers propers al 101 per on, teòricament, passen els cotxes estaven literalment invadits de vianants.

Ara sí que podem dir… any nou, vida nova!!

Anna & AlbertFew days late… but let us post about the New Year’s Eve at Taipei.

After a quick dinner (a kind of thick noodles soup with some topping), we headed to Taipei 101 area (still the tallest buliding in the world until Burj Dubai is opened later this year). For the last 6 years this is the place where a large amount of Taipei inhabitants gather to welcome the New Year. The size of the crowd is impressive and various «locals» (Albert workmates mainly) suggested not to go there for the chaos that we would face… but being brand new inhabitants it was a must for us to attend.

The city organizes a concert with the most trendy and famous music groups from Taiwan scene. You can read about it here.

At 12:00 the world famous fireworks start. This year the show lasted for 188 seconds (3 minutes and 8 seconds). 22,000 rounds of fireworks went off for a price tag of NT$30 million (less than US$ 1 million).

We recorded our own video, but YouTube provides with better videos. After the fireworks we ate 12 grapes as the tradition mandates in our country.

The slogan for 2010 is «Taiwan UP!»

When the fireworks ended, the chaos organized by the people and the vehicles was memorable. The MRT (metro) run all night long and carried around 2 million people. The avenues close to Taipei 101 became pedestrian domain for couple of hours. Drivers had to wait.

So, as we say in catalan … «any nou, vida nova!!» [new year, new life!!]
