Carnaval dels gossosPets Carnival

Fa cosa d’un mes en un cafè a la zona de Shida vaig veure un anunci d’un «carnaval de gossos» que es celebraria a principis de Gener. Com que m’agraden aquesta mena de tonteries (i vaig poder convèncer a l’Anna) vam anar-hi a treure el cap.

Quan es camina per Taipei no és raro trobar-se animals (sobretot gossos) vestits amb alguna mena de roba, xubasquero, botes, etc. El mateix és cert per altres ciutats asiàtiques, sobretot al Japó. És un exemple de la cultura asiàtica de fer coses divertides pel simple fet de que són divertides (encara que a la vegada siguin ridícules). En altres parts del món la gent no s’atraveix a expressar els seus gustos d’aquesta manera… aquí no tenen cap problema. (nota: suposo que queda clar que a Taiwan no es mengen els gossos)

A la mena de carnaval hi havia diversos shows (inclòs un concurs de bellesa), competicions d’agility (força patètiques), botigues, estudis de fotos especialitzats en animals and ONGs per a la rehabilitació i l’adopció dels gossos del carrer a Taiwan. Feu un cop d’ull!

Per acabar, menció especial al Gos Panda. A Internet diuen que el primer gos panda va ser al Japó quan Columbo va ser abandonat al no ser gaire maco. Va tenir la sort de ser recollit per Kensuke Hirakawaa (un estilista japonès) que el va convertir en el primer gos panda.

I ja tenim una nova moda al Japó i altres bandes d’Àsia…

A month ago or so, in a cafe in the Shida night-market are I spotted an advert about a «pets carnival» to be celebrated on early January. As I enjoy freak stuff (and I convinced Anna to join) we paid a visit to the exhibition.

Walking around Taipei is not unusual to see pets (specially dogs) wearing some clothes, raincoats, shoes, etc. This is also true for other parts of Asia, specially Japan. This is a demonstration of the Asian culture that enjoy to do funny things just because these things are funny (even if it can be somehow ridiculous at the same time). In other parts of the world people would be ashamed to express themselves by dressing their pets, not in here. (note: they do not eat dogs in Taiwan!)

The exhibition featured various shows (including beauty contest), agility competitions, shops, photo studios for pets and NGOs for the rehabilitation and re-homing of Taiwan’s stray dogs. Take a look!

Although we did not see any dog like that, it deserves a special mention: Panda Dog. According to sources on the internet, the origin of Panda dogs is in Japan when Columbo was abondoned due to his poor looks. Luckily for him, he was adopted by Kensuke Hirakawaa (a Japanese beautician) who used a special dye to turn the dog into a panda bear.

And a new trend was started in Japan and other parts of Asia…
