El passat 11 de Maig de 2011 sembla que era un d’aquests dies assenyalats per a la fi del món.
Els que viviu a Europa segur que vau llegir sobre les previsions de Raffaele Bendandi (mort l’any 1979) sobre un gran terratrèmol a Roma per aquest dia i com força gent va marxar de la ciutat. A Roma no va passar res però si que van tenir un terratrèmol a Lorca :(
El mestre Wang i l’11 de Maig
Pel mateix dia 11 de Maig 2011 a les 10:42:37 am, a Taiwan, un tal «mestre Wang» també havia previst un terratrèmol de 14 graus i un tsunami amb ones de fins a 170 metres. Taiwan es partiria en dos, el Taipei 101 i la residència del president serien destruits durant aquest terratrèmol.
A la societat taiwanesa li encanten aquesta mena de rumors. El «mestre Wang», un home de mitjana edat va fundar la seva predicció en el llibre clàssic xinès del I Ching i va presentar-ho a la premsa (amb el rostre mig ocult). La premsa va fer-ne d’altaveu, sobretot ara quan el terratrèmol al Japó encara és molt present.
Hi ha gent que s’ho pren a broma (la majoria dels que nosaltres coneixem) i d’altres que s’ho prenen en serio.
- Segons el diari «Lianhe Bao», un home de setanta anys es va suicidar a Taipei (tirant-se d’un cinquè pis) el dia abans ja que no volia viure el terratrèmol.
- Tot i que no van voler relacionar-ho, els militars van treure els helicopters dels hangars. Per part de l’ajuntament, a la ciutat de Keelung (al nord de Taipei), es va arribar a publicar una ruta d’evacuació del tsunami.
- El profeta va dir que només es salvaria la gent que estigués en uns containers/refugis a la zona muntanyosa de Puli. Ell i els seus seguidors van llogar terrenys i es van vendre més de 100 containers amb un cost promig de més de 5000 dòlars americans. El més interessant es que es sospita que el profeta té conexions amb els venedors de containers.
- Van acumular més de 9000 sacs d’arròs i aigua per afrontar la fi del món
Com era d’esperar no va passar res de res i un nombrós grup de gent va anar fins al seu container a demanar-li explicacions (o com a mínim una disculpa pública). Va escudar-se en que la premsa havia inflat uns comentaris sobre un possible terratrèmol que ell només havia fet a un cercle reduït d’amics.
D’altres van trucar enfadats a les autoritats i han demanat que el «mestre Wang» sigui investigat arrel de les seves absurdes previsions pel «511». La fiscalia a Taiwan ha obert una investigació i podria ser castigat a fins a 5 anys de presó (la pena màxima pels estafadors) i a una bona multa per delictes relacionats amb l’ordre públic.
… però un petit tornado el 12 de Maig
L’endemà de tot aquest enrou el que vam tenir a Taipei va ser un petit tornado a la part sud de la ciutat (Xindian), on jo treballo. No va passar de ser un petit ensurt i es va saldar amb uns quants cotxes de la part de darrera d’un restaurant ben trencats.
The readers living in Europe heard about Raffaele Bendandi (died at 1979) who talked about a huge earthquake that would destroy Rome on that day. More than a few decided to leave Rome. Nothing happened in Rome, but in southern Spain a pretty bad earthquake hit Lorca :(
Master Wang and May 11th
In Taiwan, May 11th 2011 was at 10:42:37 am, was marked by (self proclaimed) master Wang as the exact moment when a 14th degree earthquake would hit Taiwan splitting the island in two, destroying Taipei 101 and the presidential building. A tsunami would carry waves up to 170m.
Taiwanese society loves this kind of gossip. Master Wang, a middle-age man, based his prophecy on a classic Chinese book (I Ching). He reported his stories to the press who amplified the history. After the quake in Japan the story got a lot of traction.
Most of the people doesn’t take it seriously (the ones we know at least) but others consider it a real possibility.
- Accordiong to «Lianhe Bao» newspaper, an old man on his 70’s killed himself in Taipei by jumping from a 5th floor in order not to experience the earthquake.
- Even the military is moving helicopters to safe locations (although they mentioned that it was unrelated to the prophecy) and the Keelung City Government published a tsunami escape route map.
- Master Wang mentioned that to avoid being killed people had to buy a container (USD $5000 a piece) and move it to Puli mountainous area. More than 100 containers were sold. The interesting twist is that master Wang might be connected with the company that sales the containers
- Master Wang and his followers collected more than 9000 sacks of rice and a lot of water in order to survive the doom’s day
As you would expect nothing happened. Shortly after journalists and followers gathered in front of master Wang’s container asking for an explanation and/or an apology at least. He argued that it was the press who made a big story, but he only made comments to a reduced group of friends about a possible earthquake.
Others called very upset and asking the authorities to take legal actions against master Wang for his absurd claims about 511 doomsday. Fiscal in Taiwan has opened the case and the maximum sentence would force master Wang to remain in prison for 5 years and to pay large penalty.
… but we had a mini tornado on May 12th
The day after we had a small tornada in Xindian district, south of Taipei and not too far from my office area. There were no casualties and just few cars were damaged.
