Just fa cinc mesos que vaig arribar a Taipei i encara me’n recordo de la sensaci\u00f3 d’estar completament perduda en mig de de la ciutat, envoltada de gent i cartells incomprensibles.<\/p>\n

Cinc mesos i ja estic a la meitat del segon curs. Aix\u00f2 vol dir que ara ja s\u00f3c capa\u00e7 d’entendre els n\u00fameros; els dies de la setmana i els mesos; de saludar i despedir-me de la gent; de dir \u00abaix\u00f2 m’agrada i aix\u00f2 no\u00bb; distingir en els men\u00fas el qu\u00e8 \u00e9s carn o peix, sopa o arr\u00f2s; demanar la begua freda o calenta, imprescindible en qualsevol restaurant; i fins i tot demanar alguna direcci\u00f3 quan em perdo. Tot plegat sembla poca cosa, per\u00f2 suficient per fer-me entendre amb les paraules justes!<\/p>\n

Aquest segon curs va comen\u00e7ar amb m\u00e9s gent que l’anterior. A part d’un noi d’Austr\u00e0lia (que ja ha marxat) la resta s\u00f3n tots asi\u00e0tics: Jap\u00f3, Korea, Vietnam i Tail\u00e0ndia.<\/p>\n

Com que la majoria no parla angl\u00e8s, no tenim cap m\u00e9s remei que xerrar en xin\u00e8s entre nosaltres per comunicar-nos! A part dels exercicis de classe per practicar, tamb\u00e9 hem anat algun dia a sopar i fer unes birres amb la professora. La veritat \u00e9s que, tot i que ens esforcem i entre nosaltres ens entenem, moltes vegades el xin\u00e8s del carrer no s’assembla gaire al que xerrem nosaltres i per aix\u00f2 no ens entenen!<\/p>\n

Sense cap m\u00e9s intenci\u00f3 que aprendre el xin\u00e8s, a vegades paro l’orella pel carrer o en els restaurants, a veure si puc entendre alguna cosa. Poques vegades entenc la conversa, per\u00f2 fa molta il\u00b7lusi\u00f3 quan enganxes paraules aleat\u00f2riament o alguna expressi\u00f3. Pel carrer tamb\u00e9 vaig mirant els cartells, com els nens petits, i intento identificar els car\u00e0cters que ja conec i aix\u00ed poder llegir el qu\u00e8 posa.<\/p>\n

Aquest idioma t\u00e9 milers de car\u00e0cters i encara queda molt per fer. Per\u00f2 amb la mica que s\u00e9 ja puc fer algun petit escrit i fins i tot fer una mica el pallasso amb la nostra amiga taiwanesa, la Nina.<\/p>\n

L’Albert tamb\u00e9 ha fet progressos i entre tots l’ajudem. Encara que ha fet poques classes tamb\u00e9 pot dir algunes paraules i entendre’n!<\/p>\n

It has been five months since I arrived at Taipei and I still remember the sensation of being completely lost in the middle of the city, surrounded by people and signs\/posters that I couldn’t understand.<\/p>\n

Five months and I am half way on the second course. That means that I am able to understand the numbers, week days, months, to introduce myself (and to say goodbye), to say what I like and what I don’t; recognize the characters for meat\/fish\/soup\/rice dishes on the menus, order hot or cold drink (and absolute must at any restaurant) and even to ask for directions when I get lost. Even though it might seem not too much, it is enough to get around and be somehow understood.<\/p>\n

This second course started with more people than the previous one. Apart from an Australian boy (that already went back home) the rest are Asian: Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand.<\/p>\n

As most of them do not speak English, there is no other option than to speak Chinese among us! In addition to the exercises during the lessons, we’ve also met for dinner and some beers with the teacher. Even if we try our best and we understand each other, sometimes \u00abour\u00bb Chinese is not that well understood by the people on the street.<\/p>\n

With no other intention that to learn Chinese, sometimes I listen to the people on the street or restaurants trying to understand something. Very rarely I can follow their conversation but I am very happy when I manage to understand some words or expresions. While walking around I also read all the posts and signs, like a little child, to see if I can recognize any of the Chinese characters that I already studied.<\/p>\n

This language has thousands of characters and there is still a loooong way to go. With my current level I can manage to write a short essay or perform in a short film with our friend Nina.<\/p>\n
