Una de les moltes sorpreses de Taiwan \u00e9s que aqu\u00ed hi ha tres dels fabricants de bicicletes m\u00e9s grans del m\u00f3n: Giant (el l\u00edder mundial), Media i Ideal.

Llavors \u00e9s del tot normal que anar amb bici sigui un dels esports m\u00e9s populars a Taiwan. De fet molta gent s’anima a fer la volta amb bici a Taiwan (uns 1000Km de per\u00edmetre). Pots llogar un GPS de Cycling Lifestyle<\/a> i et donen un certificat oficial quan has acabat la volta. <\/p>\n

El cap de setmana despr\u00e9s del terratr\u00e8mol al Jap\u00f3 (a Taiwan no ha passat res de res), l’Anna i jo ens vam animar a anar amb uns companys de feina d’ADB al HAHAHE<\/a>, una bona volta de 100Km (o 200Km si t’animes) al voltant de Hualien i el \u00abeast rift valley\u00bb. Vam llogar les bicis a la botiga Giant del costat de l’estaci\u00f3 i ens vam haver de llevar de bon mat\u00ed ja que la cursa comen\u00e7ava cap a les 7. Al final va ser una bona cosa perqu\u00e8 sin\u00f3 ens hauriem torrat al sol. Com ens passa de tant en tant, erem els \u00fanics no asi\u00e0tics a la vista.. Vam tardar unes 6 hores i mitja a fer els 100 Km (no est\u00e0 mal per no haver entrenat). Alguns companys d’ADB van animar-se a fer els 200Km!

A Taipei hi ha bicis per tot arreu (per\u00f2 no hi ha carrils bici!) i cal anar amb compte de no ser atropellat, per\u00f2 la veritat \u00e9s que s\u00f3n molt c\u00edvics i no hem tingut cap incident.

De fer, si vols anar amb bicicleta sense preocupar-te, hi ha m\u00e9s de 100 km de carril bici al voltants dels 3 rius que hi ha a Taipei. Els carrils s\u00f3n nom\u00e9s per a bicicletes (ni cotxes ni scooters).

Es poden llogar bicicletes a un preu m\u00f2dic a varies estacions al voltant del riu. Pots llogar la bici a un lloc i deixar-la en un altre. Totes les explicacions (en xino…) les podeu trobar a Cycling Lifestyle<\/a>. Al costat d’aquest carril bici hi ha un munt de camps de b\u00e0squet, b\u00e8isbol, futbol, etc. Quan fa bon dia tot sovint ens animem a llogar les bicis. Quan van venir el Xavi i la Pilar<\/a> tamb\u00e9 els vam portar a donar un tomb (fins a Danshuei).<\/p>\n

Tamb\u00e9 m’agrada patinar i de fet ho trobava a faltar. A meitats del 2010 vaig aconseguir comprar-me uns patins (una tasca no gens f\u00e0cil ja que el patinatge en linea no \u00e9s popular i el meu peu \u00e9s molt gran pels seus est\u00e0ndars). Aix\u00ed que l’Anna va amb la bici i jo vaig patinant. Al ser estranger i anar amb patins tothom em mira i alguns em donen \u00e0nims i tot :)

M’han comentat que hi ha un grup de patinadors els divendres a la nit (quan no plou) per\u00f2 encara no m’hi he pogut ajuntar cap dia. Est\u00e0 a la llista de coses per fer.One of the many surprising facts of Taiwan is that it hosts some of the largest manufacturers of bicycles in the world: Giant (the largest in the world), Media and Ideal among others.

It is then not a shock to know that biking is the most popular sport in the the island and that a lot of people do the tour around the island (~1000KM) by bike. You can rent a GPS device from Cycling Lifestyle<\/a> you actually get an official certificate about your tour around Taiwan.<\/p>\n

The weekend after the earthquake in Japan, Anna and I joined a group trip with some of my colleagues at ADB to participate in HAHAHE<\/a>, a 1 day-100KM (or 200KM if you want…) tour around Hualien and the east rift valley. We rented the bikes at a Giant shop and, as usual, the activity started very very early in the morning. It was good so it saved us from being completely burnt under the sun. As usual we were the only foreigners around. It took us a little bit more than 6 hours to complete the 100KM (not bad for not training at all!). All ADB colleagues finished and 2 of them took the 200KM route!

In Taipei city there are bicycles everywhere (but the are no special paths almost anywhere), so you need to pay a little bit of attention.

Actually, if you want to ride a bicycle without worrying, there are more than 100 kilometers of beautiful, peaceful cycle paths along the three rivers that flow through Taipei. They are only for bicycles – no cars or scooters are allowed.
\n

Bicycles are available for rent at low prices at several locations along the bike paths. You can rent in one station and return it at another one. All the details are available from Cycling Lifestyle<\/a>. In the riverside there are various parks with basketball courts, baseball pitch, soccer fields, etc. We ‘ve rented bicycles a number of times (when it is sunny!), including when Xavier and Pilar<\/a> visited us.<\/p>\n

I also love to skate and I was missing that in Taipei. Mid 2010 I manage to buy a pair of skates (it was not an easy task, inline skating is not too popular here and my feet are big for Taiwanese standards). So, Anna goes with the bicycle and I go with the skates. Being a foreigner and with skates I get a lot of attention from the people with the bicycles, and some of them even cheer me up! :)
